Recycling Targets in the Polyolefin Sector

The EU's circular economy pressure is also affecting packaging manufacturers in Türkiye. What are the recycling rate targets set for PE and PP?

Why is it on the agenda?

The EU's circular economy and Green Deal policies are increasingly pushing packaging manufacturers to use more recycled content. According to data shared by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry, Türkiye's municipal waste recycling rate was around 12.3% in 2020 — well below the European average. This shows that the area carries both regulatory pressure and growth potential.

Material-based targets

According to information from PAGEV/PAGÇEV, Türkiye targets a recycling rate of around 40% for PE and around 30% for PP. For PET, a 50% rPET (recycled PET) usage target stands out.

In packaging in direct contact with food (such as bottles, caps, plates), the use of recycled material is kept more limited for hygiene/safety reasons (according to some sources, in the range of 5-10%) and requires certified processes.

What this means for us

The PP, AYPE, YYPE and LLDPE raw materials currently in our catalog are virgin (primary, non-recycled) material. If you need raw material with recycled content, that is a separate supply category — if you send us your request, we can evaluate it and point you in the right direction.
