An Overview of Türkiye's Plastic Raw Material Market

According to PAGEV's (Turkish Plastics Industry Foundation for Research, Development and Education) 2026 Türkiye Plastics Sector Monitoring Report, domestic raw material consumption in 2026 is projected to shrink by around 4.1% in volume terms to 8.68 million tons, while reaching approximately USD 9.6 billion in value terms.

According to the same report, imports are expected to decrease by around 1.7% in 2026, while exports are expected to increase by around 8.9%. Despite this, a foreign trade deficit of around 6.07 million tons is projected for the sector by year-end — meaning Türkiye still imports a significant portion of the plastic raw material it consumes.

This structural deficit explains why using domestic production (Petkim) alongside imported supply channels, in a balanced way, is such a common model in the sector. Rather than relying on a single source, evaluating both together provides a more flexible position for supply security — this is also why we work with both Petkim and imported equivalents.
